4 Different Ways To Get Your Mixtape On Livemixtapes

Livemixtapes is an online mixtape hosting platform that allows hip-hop artists to upload their mixtapes, and make it available for streaming and downloading – which can be shared & promoted to their audience online while taking advantage of Livemixtape’s built-in audience.

How to upload your mixtape on Livemixtapes is the golden question. Getting your mixtape on Livemixtapes is more similar to uploading your mixtape on Spinrilla or MyMixtapez, but unlike mixtape hosting platforms such as Datpiff, Livemixtapes does not allow any and everybody to upload a mixtape. Sorry, you can’t just make an account and upload the tape you just drop.

How does Livemixtapes help music artists?

By putting your mixtape on Livemixtapes, you’re not only getting a platform to promote and share your music, but you’re also getting your mixtape in front of hundreds of thousands of monthly visitors that view the site. Now, depending on who your target audience is (“Everybody” should not be your target audience if you want to succeed) and how much work you’ve put into your image, music quality, story, etc., this could be what helps you gain traction and build a fan base quickly.

Just like it can help you gain traction quickly, it can also help you commit artist suicide just as quick. If you don’t put in the work to make sure your image, music quality, and overall brand are consistent and high quality, instead of gaining traction, you’ll go into “Music Debt”.

What this means is that you’ll ruin that first impression. Now next time you release a song or project, potential fans will be more hesitant to re-listen to you, because you’ve already set an impression that you suck (Don’t worry, people’s mind can be changed)

So, how do you upload your mixtape on Livemixtapes?

Basically, there are 4 different methods you can use to get your mixtape uploaded on Livemixtapes. Each one of these methods has a different level of difficulty and speed. I’m not here to tell you which method is best for you – but I will show you how to use each method.

There 4 methods consist of:

  1. Sign up for an account & complete their expedited application
  2. Work with someone who has a Livemixtapes account
  3. Network with the staff
  4. Hustle, grow your popularity, and then have them come to you

If you want to get more information on each method, you can watch the video below or skip it and continue reading.

1. Sign up for an account & complete their expedited application

This seems to be the easiest and straightforward way to get your mixtape uploaded on their site

You simply log into your account and select “Upload Mixtape”

You should then be taken to this screen where you can pay and complete the expedited application

When reading the page, the “who” part stuck out to me the most. The fact that there is no guarantee would deter me from this method.

“When your payment is made your application will be up for immediate review. Although we highly recommend taking this invitation for quick approval it does not guarantee approval. There is no limit to how many DJ/Label/Artists we will ultimately approve and it will be entirely up to the whoever is submitting their application to put their best foot forward.”

Now, I personally don’t know anyone who has had their non-expedited application approved, but I’m sure there are some who have. I highly doubt a company such as Livemixtapes would risk a bad reputation just for an extra $50 in revenue

2. Work with someone who has a Livemixtapes account.

This is also an easy way to get on Livemixtapes. Hip-Hop DJ’s tend to offer mixtape hosting services which include a Livemixtapes upload on them. Some Dj’s will work with just about any artist, while others will only work with music artist that meet a certain standard.

This will require you to network with a few hip-hop Dj’s.

One method I suggest, is going onto Livemixtapes and looking at all of the names that have hosted artists mixtapes that may be similar to yours.

After gathering a few DJ names, look them up on twitter. Contribute to their conversations and network. Build your network.

You can ask for their mixtape hosting prices, but that will start the relationship off with you being a customer. There are times when asking for prices right away would be acceptable, but for upcoming artists with little to no buzz/fanbase, I’d say don’t do it.

Find ways to help them first and work from there.

3. Network With The Staff

One of the more difficult, but better ways to get on Livemixtapes is to network with the people who run it. If I remember correctly, last time we worked together, it was about 5-6 people who came into the office daily.

Network and help them grow their business. Stay in the loop. Develop real friendships, not fake ones with the hopes of getting something out of it.

Then when the time is right, play your best song around some of them and get feedback. If it’s good enough, they would want to put you on the site.

The higher the quality of mixtapes they upload, the more successful their platform becomes.

Create a win-win situation.

4. Hustle and grow your popularity.

This might be the slowest way to go but is definitely not the worst. Go out and hustle, network, make high-quality music, and grow your popularity and fanbase. This way, once you release a mixtape, they will want to upload it onto their site because of the traffic that you can send their way.

Like I said before, the higher the quality of mixtapes they upload, the more successful their platform becomes.

Create a win-win situation.

Conclusion

Getting on Livemixtapes is not as easy as Datpiff, but can be worth it for the credibility and viewers. Livemixtapes alone will not make you a successful music artist and it’s not meant to. It’s a marketing tool. Focus on it, only once you have created a quality product (the music). Marketing terrible music will make it easy for people to forget about you within the next 12 months. You don’t want that, do you?
