I’ve said this over and over again but becoming a successful rapper is more than just creating good music. The marketing and business side of becoming a successful music artist are just as important, which is why we’re going to talk about having a biography.

An artist biography includes detailed information about your career, your journey, and yourself. It’s one of the quickest ways for someone who has never met you before, to get to know you.

Why Should You Have An Artist Biography?

Having an artist biography is more than just a bunch of paragraphs. It’s a tool that can be used to help you push your music career further. You should have an artist biography because it can help improve your branding and make you look more professional, it allows your fans to get a deeper look at who you are and get to know you better, it helps you separate yourself from other artists who do not have a biography, and it can help you secure placements with different platforms and companies.

It’s easy to look at a few upcoming hip-hop artists that became popular fast and think ‘If they didn’t have one, why do I need one?’. Most artists that become popular quickly are unprepared, unorganized, and are usually unable to sustain their careers.

When Do You Need An Artist Biography?

If you’ve read a few of my other articles, you probably already know that I’m not a big fan of doing things ‘just because’. There’s no point in wasting time or money on things that won’t help your career in the long-run. So the answer to when you need an artist biography will depend on your goals.

If I was managing an artist, I would wait until they had a few hot songs recorded (not released) and then get their online presence together (including a biography). I wouldn’t recommend getting a biography unless you’re ready to start promoting your music. Before then, your money or time would be better spent on creating good music.

Regardless of when you get one, getting an artist biography for your music career will only help push you closer to becoming a professional and successful music artist.

How Do I Get An Artist Biography For My Music Career?

Just like most things in your music career, there are 2 options:

2. Hire someone to do it for you
