How Does Datpiff Help?

Similar to Livemixtapes and Spinrilla, Datpiff is a mixtape hosting platform. It allows you to upload mixtapes and videos that can be promoted to your fans and DatPiffs’s active community.

Just like other mixtape hosting platforms, Datpiff’s main goal is to help you spread your music and reach more fan. This is extremely beneficial if you’ve got most of your bases covered (Good music, branding, marketing strategy, etc..). But just as much as it benefits you, it can hurt if you don’t have your shit together.

A Few Post That Help You Get Your Shit Together:

How To Get Your Mixtape On DatPiff?

Getting your mixtape on Datpiff was a lot simpler a few years ago. All you had to do was create an account and start uploading. This was one of DatPiff’s strengths, as well as its weakness. With a lack of “exclusive” mixtape releases from mainstream artist and a ton of releases from everybody else, Datpiff became associated as a place for “less cool” artists.

However, over the years, Datpiff has started to release a lot more “exclusive” mixtapes from mainstream artists while improving its brand.

So, since I’ve shown you how to get your mixtape on Livemixtapes & how to get your mixtape on Spinrilla, it’s only right that I show you how to get your mixtape on Datpiff.

1. Create An Account or Sign-In

If you already have a DatPiff account and you sign-in, you might already have “upload permissions” on your account (depending on how old your account is). When I signed into my old account that I uploaded mixtapes with in the past, I was still able to upload mixtapes despite Datpiff’s changes.

If you’re creating a new account, no worries. Just follow along and I’ll show you how to upload a mixtape.

2. Go To “My Files”

After creating your account, click on “my account” and go to the “my files” tab.

3. Go To The “Applications” tab

Under “my files” you will see 3 tabs:

  • Mixtapes
  • Videos
  • Application

Click on the “Application” tab to apply for “upload permissions”.

4. Complete The Application & Wait

Fill out the application forms and wait.

5. Follow Up Via Email Every 7-14 Days

I’m a big believer that the money is in the follow-up. So, if you don’t hear anything back from DatPiff within 7-14 days, shoot them a professional and friendly email asking for an update on your upload application.

Remember, you have to be professional and DONT use text-message language (ex. “U” instead of “You” – “Wanna” instead of “Want To” – etc..)

6. Once Approved, Go Back To “My Files”

7. Click On Upload Mixtape

This is where you will start the process of uploading your mixtape. Fill out all of the information and then proceed to the next screen.

8. Upload Your Music

You will have to upload each song in MP3 format. Each song will be uploaded individually and after it is uploading, you will be able to re-arrange them in any order you like.

9. Preview Your Mixtape

Once all the information is filled out and all of your MP3’s are uploaded, preview your mixtape to make sure that everything looks legit (mixtape info, cover, music, etc..)

10. Submit It

If everything checks out, click submit and now your mixtape is ready to be “published” at a later time.

You can publish your mixtape immediately by clicking YES to the “Submit Mixtape Online” question at the bottom of the screen.

Congratulations

If you’ve made it this far and followed the instructions above, you should have your mixtape uploaded on DatPiff. Now, it’s time for you to start marketing your mixtape.

  3. we are having alot of difficulties uploading a live mixtape we did. The actual mixtape is one file about 120 mbs since its one continuous live sequence.
we realised that they were requesting 3 files. so in order
to comply with their 3 file demand we uploaded two very short intro and extro files that were silence.
when we attempted uploading the main file it would on several reach 96% upload and then get stuck or it would upload but despite saying it was uploaded no file would be actually uploaded.we tried both Safari and Chrome browsers. Still nothing is working.
Do you have any suggestions ?
    thanks

  4. Question: Do you have to have the whole thing finished, or can it be a work in progress? I’m still waiting of the completion of my cover art and other tunes, but if I submit it online, can I continually keep uploading to it?

  5. Hi there,
I wanted to upload a mixtape on datpiff but the preview doesn’t look the way I want it to. I have all the info filled out and all the tracks are uploaded. However, the album artwork does not appear when I go to preview the mixtape. What could be the reason for this? The file type for the artwork is png which has worked in the past. Would a jpg version work as well. Am I doing anything wrong?

    Thanks

  6. do you think mixtapes are still necessary? Because we’ve all noticed the evolution of releasing music. First it was rapping over popular beats, then it was releasing original beats which makes it sound more like an album, but for some reason still call it a mixtape.

Now there’s a new trend, where artists are releasing music on soundcloud in 10-15 day spans; in other words theyre dropping songs once every 2 weeks, and every 1 or 2 months they’ll drop a 4 or 5-song digital EP for free on soundcloud , and then just repeat this process over and over again.

If that’s the new thing thats poppin right now, then are mixtapes still worth our time and energy? My only guess would be for the more street-type rapper is it still effective.

    • Hey Z, good question.

The effectiveness of mixtapes will depend on the audience you have. You have to experiment and see what your audience is interested in.

As a new artist, creating a mixtape without fans won’t do you much good (unless that’s part of a plan to get more fans).

Your main goal should be to get more fans, as quickly and easy as possible without damaging your brand.

The bigger you become as an artist, the more likely you are to create a mixtape or an album so that you can use that project to tour.

*A project that you put up for “free download” is usually called a mixtape, no matter if it sounds like an album or not.

So, to answer your original question: Yes, I think mixtapes are still effective if you’re creating them for good reasons (to tour, to satisfy your fans, etc..). If you’re just trying to get more fans, focus on creating singles.
